How do you Feel about Public Speaking?
When I first thought about getting up before an audience and speaking I was terrified. I did not want to do it. I did not believe that people would want to hear what I had to say. Frankly, I lacked confidence.
But I did not like how that made me feel. That is when I decided to do something about it. I decided to confront my fears head on. I started to speak at my church. I would prepare my topic and scriptures prayerfully. I would would fast (go without eating for the day) so that my stomach would stay calm. Then I would plunge ahead.
On several occasions people came up to me and expressed how much my presentation blessed them. This was a confidence booster. Later on I decided that I needed to do more to overcome my fears. I had to be deliberate and persistent. I joined a public speaking club and I have been speaking ever since.
My goal was not to win contests (though I did) or to be the best orator…but rather to grow in confidence and to conquer fear.
Now tell me…
